Buckeye50 Playoff Picks – November 2, 2021

Week 1: Playoff Rankings

Our favorite time of year is the start of the College Football Playoff rankings! Like the previous years, we polled together and came up with our own staff list for the top 6 teams ahead of the committees rankings.

This football season has been exciting with really only one team that has been dominant, and that is Georgia. Several one loss teams, like Ohio State, are still in the hunt, while some undefeated teams are looking to make the playoff for the first time. Will this be the year a Group of 5 team in Cincinnati breaks the trend and makes the playoff race? We will find out tonight!

How We Voted

Buckeye50 Playoff Poll –

As stated, Georgia has looked like the best defense in the country, and has not really been challenged. Their best wins are starting to look less shiny, but they have already clinched a spot in the SEC Championship game.

Michigan State might be the biggest challenger to Ohio State in the Big Ten, and pulled out an impressive win this weekend against Michigan. They are led by their Heisman candidate Kenneth Walker, III, who leads the country in rushing yards.

Alabama lost a close game on the road to Texas A&M, but still have one of the most talented teams in the country. They dont have a ranked opponent on their schedule until a potential showdown with Auburn and Georgia in the SEC Championship Game.

Cincinnati went on the road and dominated Notre Dame, who is a top 10 team. They don’t have the greatest strength of schedule outside of that, but with one of the better defenses in the country, and a chance to stay undefeated, they have a chance to make it in as the first Group of 5 team to make the playoff.

Ohio State is our first team out, as the loss to Oregon still weighs on them, but they have since produced the best offense in the country, and won their first game against a ranked opponent in Penn State this weekend.

Oklahoma started to take a turn for the better with Caleb Williams behind center, and will have a week off this week before playing a top 15 team in Baylor. This will be the biggest test to the Sooners, who have continued to give up lots of yardage on defense, and didn’t put away a 1 win team in Kansas until late into the 4th quarter.
