The βBlock Oβ jersey was created in memory of Bill Willis, a College and Pro Football Hall of Famer whose No. 99 is retired in the Horseshoe. The jersey, awarded annually, is given to a team leader that embodies Willisβ βtoughness, accountability and the highest of character.β
Xavier Johnson follows previous winners Jonathon Cooper, Thayer Munford and Kamryn Babb as Buckeyes to be awarded the number.
According to Eleven Warriors, “Johnson drew comparisons to Babb, a two-time captain who was regarded as Ohio Stateβs spiritual leader for the past two seasons, from offensive coordinator Brian Hartline this spring.Β βHow I always think of Kam Babb is as an amazing young man, heβs created a standard. Everyone kind of knows,β Hartline said. βX is in line with all that. Big man of faith, great leader with the young guys, willing to speak up. The future’s bright for Xavier.β”
