Buckeyes Land First Commit of Jake Diebler Era
Marcus Johnson, a 6-2 170 pound point guard and the #1 overall prospect in Ohio for the class of 2026 from Garfield Heights High School in Cleveland has committed to Coach Jake Diebler and Ohio State. Johnson, the cousin of current Buckeye Meechie Johnson, ranks 24th overall nationally by 247 and 12th by ESPN, while 247 lists him as the 4th best point guard in the country. Johnson was a D1 All Ohio selection this past season, winning Lake Erie League Player of the year, leading Garfield Heights to the D1 Regional finals. A finalist for Mr. Basketball in Ohio, losing out to Buckeye signee Colin White, Johnson averaged 23.1 points, 5 rebounds and 3.1 assists this past season and has already scored over 1,000 points in his high school career. Although he lost out in the Mr. Basketball voting, he was honored with the Gatorade Ohio Player of the Year as well as the MaxPreps Ohio Player of the year. Johnson will bring his talents to Columbus and is a huge first commitment for Coach Diebler as he looks to build the Buckeye program back to prominence for years to come.
