Bold Predictions: Oregon

Its the Buckeyes versus the Ducks for a classic Big Ten Matchup (which is a weird thing to say) and a lot of storyline between these two teams for a top 3 match up that will help either team earn pole position for the Big Ten Championship Game, along with undefeated Indiana. Here are our bold predictions for this game.

1. Ohio State forces 4 turnovers.

In 2023, the Buckeyes has 11 turnovers for the whole season. Through 5 games, the Buckeyes have now forced 9 with the 3 from the Iowa game. This has been a point of emphasis for this unit this offseason as the defensive backs have worked on drills to punch out the ball and even the defensive line doing different adjustments to strip the ball close to the line of scrimmage. Dillon Gabriel has thrown three interceptions the past two games, and for a Buckeye defense looking for opportunities to have an edge for the outcome, this would be one of those areas.

2. Emeka Egbuka and Jeremian Smith have 2 touchdowns each.

We need to appreciate what Emeka Egbuka has done so far this season, he just happens to be on the same team as the human highlight reel that is Jeremiah Smith, but it is because of Smith that Egbuka decided to stay back and help be a mentor for the young star receiver. The unselfishness has produced big dividends for the senior who is chasing several Ohio State career receiving records, and has been close to 100 yards himself the past few games. The Oregon secondary cant key on one player, so I think Chip Kelly and this offense find ways to get them both the ball.

3. Ohio State wins, and moves to 1st place in the polls.

Texas has moved above the Buckeyes since beating the defending National Champions, Michigan*, on the road in week 2 of the season, and have played lesser competition since then, while also managing Quinn Ewers’ injury. The Longhorns and the Sooners both had a bye week last week leading to this weeks game of the Red River Rivalry. For the Sooners, I think they have given their new quarterback more reps to try and run their offense, and if their defense can step up, I think they have a real shot of beating Texas. That being said, even if Texas wins, Ohio State beating the number 3 team in the country on the road would be an impressive resume boost, and should get some real consideration as the top team in the country.
