Monday Musings: Top 5 Questions for Game 12 – Michigan

This is it. The Game week. Ohio State did their part and is entering the game as a top 2 team in the country, and a chance to play for the Big Ten Championship on the line. Michigan just secured bowl eligibility with a win against Northwestern in week 13 of the season, and will try to play spoiler for the 4th year in a row. Here are our top questions entering The Game.

1. Does Ryan Day get his 2nd win against the Wolverines?

The big story this offseason was all about the Buckeyes buying a roster to compete for a National Championship after having to sit at home and watch the confetti fall for the Wolverines when they won in January. The monkey on the back of Ryan Day was can he win the big one and can he beat Michigan. Day has now won 2 top 5 games this season, and now has a chance to get the Buckeyes back in the win column against the Wolverines who are having a down year.

2. Are we about to see restart of the 10-year war?

On a recruiting front, Michigan just paid out over $10 million for 5 start recruit Bryce Underwood, and flipped him from LSU. For Ohio State, they still have a solid commit with number 2 overall recruit Tavien St. Clair. These two might being another level to the rivalry as two of the best quarterbacks in the country and will draw some of the top talent as well. With the new litigation about revenue sharing that will start in 2025, and The Foundation bringing in recruiting efforts for the Buckeyes, this might be an interesting back and forth to watch for the next 4 years.

3. Is Davison Igbinosun cursed?

Davison Igbinosun can get a pass interference penalty just by waking up in the morning, and it seems that he gets at least 1 or 2 calls a game. The receivers for Michigan are not the best talent Ohio State has seen this week, but his penchant for drawing penalties keeps drives alive for opponents, and makes it difficult for the Buckeye defense to get off the field.

4. Do you go for the blowout or secure the win?

This game is one of the major reasons a lot of the draft eligible juniors came back for one more year, and there is the infamous story of Day claiming he would lay 100 on the Wolverines in 2020, and has not yet been able to back up his claim. I dont think it is possible to put up 100 points in a game without a lot of creative touchdowns, however how much frsutration will the Buckeyes let out in this game and do they hold back at all from scoring or just go all out?

5. Will we see the NCAA NOI release before The Game?

Michigan has been under several investigations with the NCAA, the most notable one with the sign-stealing investigation and Connor Stallions. The NCAA has informed Michigan of their findings, and the Wolverines have had time to appeal, so we will see if anything of that will get leaked ahead of the game, and what impact that would mean for the previous seasons.
