Bold Predictions: Penn State
Ohio State enters this week’s showdown coming off a bye with a sharpened focus and a roster loaded for the stretch run. Penn State also used the week off, but their status is unmistakably different: four straight losses, quarterback questions, and a program under midseason reset. This isn’t simply a game — it’s a chance for Ohio State to make a statement and for Penn State to find a pulse.
Here are three bold predictions for Saturday:
Julian Sayin completes at least one 30-yard pass, and two different receivers score touchdowns.
Ohio State’s offense is built on balance and versatility. Penn State’s defense will load the box in response to the run and pressure the edges to cut down explosive plays. That leaves opportunities for Sayin: a shot down the boundary to Carnell Tate, a seam to Jeremiah Smith off play-action, or a touch-pass to a tight end in space. Expect Sayin to convert that shot, hit two distinct receivers, and sit down a quarter early as the game slips away.
Ohio State’s defense forces at least 3 turnovers.
Penn State’s offense is young, seeking rhythm, and adjusting to life under a new coordinator and interim head coach. Ohio State’s front has been dominant in creating negative plays all season, and now faces a quarterback under pressure to perform in a hostile environment. Expect two interceptions and a forced fumble as the Buckeye secondary jumps routes and the pass rush wins early. Turnover margin could be the key swing.
The Buckeyes rush for over 200 yards and dominate time of possession.
The bye week was used to refine university-style physicality: interior zone emphasis, downhill reads, and heavy personnel sets when necessary. Penn State’s defense has worn down during its skid and often gives up explosive plays after halftime. With Bo Jackson’s burst, CJ Donaldson’s finite power, and James Peoples tying the rotation together, Ohio State should control the line of scrimmage, shorten the game, and walk away with dominant time of possession and production on the ground.
