Buckeyes Land 2nd 2027 Commit In As Many Days

For the second straight day, Jake Diebler and Ohio State have landed a highly rated recruit in the 2027 class, as point guard Jaxson Davis announced his decision to continue his basketball career with the Buckeyes. Davis gives Ohio State a high-level lead guard to build around in the class, committing to the Buckeyes on September 18 after emerging as one of the top point guards in the country.

The 6-foot-1 Davis, who now attends Monarch Academy in Kansas City after previously starring at Warren Township in Gurnee, Illinois, is a four-star prospect currently ranked #39 nationally by 247Sports. He becomes Ohio State’s second commitment in the 2027 class, joining fellow four-star prospect Deng Ngor, who committed to the Buckeyes one day earlier after choosing Ohio State over Creighton.

Davis is a true lead guard who combines playmaking, pace and scoring ability. He averaged 15.1 points, 4.3 rebounds and 5.6 assists during the EYBL regular season with Meanstreets, finishing among the circuit’s leaders in assists. Scouts say he plays with a controlled handle, sees the floor well and makes quick decisions with the ball, particularly in pick-and-roll situations. Davis can get downhill and create advantages for himself or his teammates while also showing the ability to knock down shots from the perimeter and finish at the basket. Defensively, his quick hands and anticipation allow him to generate deflections and steals, while his ability to control tempo gives him another dimension as a floor general.

For Ohio State, Davis addresses one of the most important positions on the floor with a guard capable of running an offense, creating for others and making plays for himself. His ability to both distribute and score should give the Buckeyes another dynamic backcourt piece as Diebler continues to build the program’s 2027 class. Davis has described himself as a lead guard who can run a team while also putting points on the board, and his decision to choose Ohio State reflects the relationships he has built with the coaching staff and his comfort with the program’s family-oriented atmosphere.

With Davis and Ngor now committed, Ohio State has quickly established a versatile foundation for what could become one of the nation’s top 2027 recruiting classes. The Buckeyes still appear to have room for another addition, and Diebler could have an opportunity to further strengthen an already impressive group.
