Bold Predictions: Minnesota

After grinding out a physical 24–6 win at Washington, Ohio State comes back to Columbus refreshed from the bye week and sitting firmly at No. 1 in both major polls. The Buckeyes’ defense has been the story of September, allowing just two touchdowns across four games while producing game-changing plays from the defensive line. On the other side, freshman quarterback Julian Sayin continues to grow into Ryan Day’s system, managing the offense with efficiency and poise in hostile environments.

Now the focus shifts to Big Ten play. Minnesota (3–2) enters the Shoe looking for a spark after an uneven start to the season. P.J. Fleck’s Gophers have leaned heavily on their run game and physicality in past seasons, but turnovers and inconsistency under center have plagued them early. The question for Saturday night is simple: can Minnesota find enough offense to stress Ohio State, or will the Buckeyes’ defense once again shut the door?

With a prime-time crowd at Ohio Stadium and a chance to build momentum before a challenging stretch of Big Ten games, here are three bold predictions for Ohio State vs Minnesota:

1. Julian Sayin Throws 3+ Touchdowns

Sayin has already proven he can handle pressure on the road, but this week he gets a favorable matchup against a Minnesota secondary that has given up explosive plays. Expect Ryan Day to open the playbook and let his young quarterback take shots to Jeremiah Smith and Carnell Tate. Prediction: Sayin throws for 3+ touchdowns, marking his first multi-score game in conference play.

2. The Rushmen Dominate Again

Caden Curry, Kayden McDonald, and Kenyatta Jackson Jr. have been a nightmare for opposing offensive lines. Minnesota has struggled in pass protection all year, and the Buckeyes should exploit that weakness. Prediction: the Ohio State defensive front records 5 sacks and double-digit tackles for loss, keeping the Gophers behind the sticks all night.

3. A Statement Win Under the Lights

Ohio State has shown grit in close battles, but Saturday could be their first true “statement” win of the year in Big Ten play. Prediction: the Buckeyes score a defensive touchdown, pull away by halftime, and win comfortably with a balanced performance on both sides of the ball.
